Sand in My Shoes

Today I searched the blue sky for birds, drew sea air deep into my lungs

As the dog pranced through the sand, intoxicated.

I want to get closer …

Closer to what?

Life pulsing and animals surviving, thriving …

I miss the all the boobies, pelicans, albatrosses, and the tiny finches.

I can still see those Galapagos so far away all black and brown, rocky, and wild…

I think I still have their sand in my shoes.
